Job Description

Job Title: Intern Pharmacist

Responsible To: Pharmacist-In-Charge and other Pharmacists.

Principle Function: To work under the direction of the pharmacists and in conjunction with a dispensary assistant.

Your role is to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the dispensary with proper patient counseling of dispensed medications.

Primary Duties:

  1. To efficiently manage the clerical and preparatory work associated with prescription dispensing.
  2. Assisting the pharmacists and back counter staff to ensure that customers are familiar with their medications and recommending appropriate OTC medications. To be involved and intervene in the sale of pharmacist only medicines.
  3. Assisting with the accurate preparation of Webster Unit Dose packs for community Patients.
  4. Assisting the pharmacists in providing counseling, CPI and medication advice and information to patients.
  5. Assist the pharmacist to conduct medication reviews on patients and be involved in the preparation of community DMMR assessments.
  6. Providing information on various health-related topics to pharmacy assistants by way of presentations or answering general queries staff may have.
  7. Preparation of extemporaneous preparations as needed and prepared in advance where necessary.

Shared Duties:

  1. Stock Control: Assisting the pharmacists and dispensary assistants with the ordering of stock, unpacking of stock, stock rotation, stock fills and checking of expiry dates.
  2. Dispensary, Computer and Script Housekeeping.
  3. Work on rotation at all pharmacies within the group to assist the pharmacist and work on the back counters to gain experience in different community pharmacy situations.
  4. Work in rotation at the Mater Hospital Pharmacy to gain exposure to a hospital pharmacy environment.
