The debate about Childrens Vitamin Supplements

To supplement or not to supplement that is the question! Childrens multi-vitamins are becoming extremely popular, with parents trying ensure their children stay healthy. But are they necessary?

As children grow and develop they can go through stages of fussy eating and it can be difficult to get them the nutrients they need from their diet on a daily basis. Let's face it; there aren't too many kids out there eating organic wholefood diets!

If you are thinking of putting your child on a multi-vitamin, you can rest assured that your child will be getting all the nutrients they need to support their growth and development, digestion, immune system, learning and concentration. Of course a multivitamin will not replace a well balanced diet, think of it as nutritional insurance. A diet full of fresh wholesome foods will supply your child with important phytonutrients, proteins, fats and carbohydrates, something a multivitamin cannot provide.

What to look for in a multivitamin:

  • Nutrients to support the nervous system and brain development such as B vitamins, Iodine, Iron, Zinc and Magnesium
  • Nutrients to support healthy immune function and resistance to infection such as Zinc, vitamins A, C and E
  • Nutrients to assist with bone development such as Calcium, Magnesium, vitamin D, and Manganese
  • Nutrients to support normal blood production including iron, folic acid, vitamins B6, B12 and
    vitamin E
  • No artificial sweeteners
